Hi, my name is Dawson.

I'm a software engineer who enjoys building creative, interesting, and useful things.

I currently work in the manufacturing industry in Montana where I develop websites and mobile apps. My personal projects are focused on mobile apps - I find them most interesting because they become part of people's everyday lives more than any other software. Recently, I've been interested in wearables and augmented reality technology.

If you like what you find here, reach out - I'm always up for new projects, collaborations, and ideas.

More about me...

I was a late bloomer to software. I grew up working construction, drilling wells, and building fence. I departed to college proudly undeclared with a real love of academics. With no commitment to any future career, I took classes looking for something I would enjoy working at (these involved creative writing, mechanical engineering, acting, anthropology, etc.) when I stumbled into an intro to programming course. There, I found a true interest in technology - but most of all, was attracted to the possibility that software engineering offers.

pounding some posts

To me, coding is the means, not the end. Software is the hammer, and all other fields are nails. I like to problem solve in the intersection of software and finance, code and sports, robotics and manufacturing. Other industries and sectors come to meet software engineering, which provides a flow of interesting problems I wouldn't have considered before. This is why software is great.

where the magic happens

Outside of my career, I like to spend time outdoors. Thanks to my grandpa having a cabin in the Bighorn mountains of Wyoming, I have been spoiled with great outdoors and now expect that. Living in Montana provides an ample playground for all that I love to do. You can find me on the mountain skiing or by the creek fishing. Really any time spent outside is appreaciated. An unofficial pastime is finding the coldest lakes I can and jumping in.

I enjoy spending time with friends and family - especially when we are playing music around a fire. Keep an eye out for our bluegrass country band the Soda Butte Boys as we chase the occasional thrill of playing a live show. Any other free time I have is filled with reading, writing, good movies, or any other form of great storytelling.
